Vikas Dubey, the killer of eight policemen arrested in India yesterday, who was shot by police firing while trying to escape.
According to Indian media reports, the police said that Vikas Dubey was arrested from a temple in Madhya Pradesh yesterday. He was being brought to Jhansi from Kanpur by road in police custody. He was to be produced in court this morning at 10 am.
While trying to seduce Vikas Dubey, a police vehicle overturned in the Bara area. As soon as the vehicle overturned, Vikas tried to flee, snatched a pistol from the policeman, and opened fire. The police team returned fire on him, after which the accused was seriously injured and died at the hospital.
It may be recalled that Vikas Dubey, accused in the brutal murder of eight policemen in Uttar Pradesh was arrested from a temple in Madhya Pradesh yesterday.
Police said that Vikas Dubey had come to worship at the temple. A security guard suspected him and asked for his identity card, but the identity card was in the name of someone other than Vikas Dubey.
Meanwhile, security personnel took him away and informed the police. When police took him to the police station and questioned him, he admitted that he was Vikas Dubey, a gangster from Kanpur.
There were more than 60 cases against Vikas Dubey, but since he had ties to leaders of both the ruling BJP and the opposition Samajwadi Party, he continued to roam freely.
